Display Complexity Affects Visual Processing of Horticultural Plant Retail Displays

چکیده

Abstract Attractive displays can stimulate sales in the retail setting. With most plants still sold physical outlets, influence of display layout on visual behavior and purchasing is interest to academicians practitioners. Using a within-subjects in-lab experiment eye tracking technology, we explored how cognitive load imposed by horticultural affects attention choice. Display layouts were varied for six choice tasks which participants indicated their preferred alternative likelihood-to-purchase that alternative. Our study suggests as number plant genera increases, perceived complexity ignore larger percentage products while spending lower gaze sequence fixated product. Implications retailers include increasing horizontal merchandising, reducing vertical diversifying product mix display. Index words: load, tracking, marketing, displays, complexity. Species used this study: Buddleia davidii Franch. ‘Little Nugget', Campanula portenschlagiana Resholt (Roem. & Schult.), Coreopsis grandiflora L. ‘Sunburst', Echinacea purpurea Moench ‘Delicious Candy', Hydrangea paniculata ‘Limelight', Lupinus spp. ‘Tutti Fruitti', Sempervivum cv. L, Spirea japonica ‘Double Play Red'.

Visual Information Processing From Multiple Displays

OBJECTIVE In this study, we examined how effectively people can monitor new stimuli on a peripheral display while carrying out judgments on an adjacent central display. BACKGROUND Improved situation awareness is critical for improved operator performance in aviation and many other domains. Given the limited extent of foveal processing, acquiring additional information from peripheral vision o...

Complexity of visual stimuli affects visual illusion induced by sound

The fission illusion is induced by multisensory (audio-visual) integration. In the present study, we assume that perceptual efficiency affects the fission illusion's rate because this illusion occurs in a short temporal range through the integration of visual and auditory information. The present study examined the effect of perceptual efficiency on the fission illusion by presenting visual pat...

Sound affects the speed of visual processing.

The authors examined the effects of a task-irrelevant sound on visual processing. Participants were presented with revolving clocks at or around central fixation and reported the hand position of a target clock at the time an exogenous cue (1 clock turning red) or an endogenous cue (a line pointing toward 1 of the clocks) was presented. A spatially irrelevant sound presented 100 ms before the c...

Dynamic Full Spectrum Digital Lighting of Retail Displays Positively Affects Consumer Behavior

Quantitative and qualitative analyses of 480 customers comparing a prototype storefront design of a “highend specialty retail” chain to a traditional storefront design of the same chain at a different location revealed that the new design, which significantly incorporated full spectrum digital color changing luminaries manufactured by Color Kinetics of Boston, MA, effectively increased the foot...

How alcohol intake affects visual temporal processing

Alcohol affects vision. However, the influence of alcohol on visual processing is largely unknown. Here, we investigated the effects of alcohol on visual spatiotemporal processing. We employed a visual paradigm, the shine through backward masking paradigm, in which a vernier is either presented alone or followed by a variety of mask. We investigated performance for women at blood alcohol levels...
